The simplicity of the circle of
motifs that Mia E Göransson works with is striking: twigs,
leaves, buds and other cast fragments of nature are combined with basic geometric
forms,
such as the cube and the cylinder. But even if her means of expression are controlled,
and
occasionally even cautious, they carry strong visual and emotional content.
An expansive
force is contained in the modest pieces.
The dualism between the softly organic and the rectilinear
is challenged and loosened up.
Together, the vessels, sculptures and reliefs form a world that is concentrated
and unyielding,
yet at the same time open, and that entices the viewer onto a journey of discovery,
an
excursion taking place as much in the mind as through the sensual sensations
of the eyes and
hands. Sometimes the well-balanced pitch is broken by a desire to stretch the
boundaries, to
push the formalistic contrasts and to force the material to its absolute limits.
In a group of
bowls, the extremely thin walls are created using liquid clay that is quickly
poured and
washed out in a mould.
The edges appear brittle, and the ethereal expression is enhanced by the transparency
of the
bone porcelain. From the delicate vessel bodies, leaves and branches with distinct
shapes are
protruding. Here, the cast nature appears more permanent than the manmade vessels
they are
set to decorate. And so, the bowls form a melancholy reflection of life, creativity
and perish -
ability.
